BKF provided design services for a grade separation for the Orange County Gateway Program. The project required extensive coordination with the City of Anaheim, City of Placentia, OCTA, and BNSF.
As the Facebook Campus is bordered by Caltrans right of way, BKF processed 5 Caltrans encroachment permits, 2 of which also required a PEER, for mitigation improvements, bicycle and pedestrian facilities and a new signalized intersection on Bayfront Expressway. In addition to obtaining permits, BKF worked with Caltrans on the right of way and access control break acquisitions for CTC approval and provided utility coordination and approval documentation.
BKF is providing civil and surveying services to the design-build replacement bridge in support of a sustainable environment. Safety will be improved and traffic hazards will be reduced by reducing grades and adding dedicated lanes for emergency services vehicles.
The award-winning transformation of a scenic 1.3-mile segment of Highway 1 into a multi-use trail for hikers, runners, bicyclists, and equestrians involved careful planning to protect the migratory bird habitat, develop custom aesthetic solutions to barrier fencing, identify native plantings, and design overlooks for observation of the spectacular rocky shoreline.
BKF was retained by the City of Healdsburg to provide utility and streetscape improvements in historic downtown Healdsburg. The primary objective of this project is to increase pedestrian mobility through enhanced sidewalks. The project is creating pedestrian zones that cater to the passing public, window shoppers and those seeking an outdoor dining experience from restaurants adjacent to the new sidewalks.
BKF is providing on-call services to help SMART manage 70 miles of rail corridor property. BKF's responsibilities include right-of-way project management and support services.
BKF provided award winning design for the widening of Route 87 from four-lanes to six-lanes, including adding HOV bypasses at on-ramps in Santa Clara County. In concurrence with the widening improvements, BKF also provided design for widening of the Willow Street Viaduct across the Guadalupe River, settlement repairs along Route 87 and the adjacent bike path, as well as damaged drainage culverts utilizing trenchless technology.
BKF provided civil, traffic, utility, hydraulics, project coordination, and Caltrans/Local Assistance and EP support services for the CMFC gap closure, providing bicycle and pedestrian connectivity between the Cal Park MUP and the existing MUPs and facilities located on the south sidewalk of ESFDB, including the Greenway MUP boardwalk connecting Corte Madera Creek. The Project spans ESFDB with a new bike/pedestrian bridge residing within the existing Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) Corridor, adjacent to the Caltrans NB US 101 On-Ramp to the west and various private properties to the east.
BKF led a team that provided environmental clearance, including a Project Report (PAED) and construction documents (PS&E) for the I-580 Westbound HOV Lane Project in the Tri-Valley area in Alameda County. In addition to 13 miles of widening, 15 interchanges from Greenville Road to San Ramon Valley Road were modified and the work was coordinated, by change order, to effectively implement express lanes along the project limit.
Stanford University’s goal is to transform the campus into a more pedestrian and bicycle friendly campus by improving safety and traffic flow at key intersections through the installation of roundabouts. BKF assisted with all phases of the project, including design, plan preparation, and construction support.
In an effort to provide connectivity of State Route 4 (SR-4) while simultaneously addressing inadequate access and future growth of the Port of Stockton’s West Complex Development Plan, BKF was appointed by San Joaquin Council of Governments (SJCOG) as the prime civil consultant to lead the Project Approval & Environmental Document (PA&ED) team effort.
BKF assisted with the award winning reconstruction of Wilson Avenue along the Mare Island waterfront between Highway 37 and Hitchborn Drive. The project included shifting the alignment of the roadway and incorporating a landscaped median and pedestrian access pathway adjacent to River Park.
This award winning project located along the 101 corridor, serves to complete bicycle and pedestrian continuity and access across the highway mainline. BKF was responsible for civil engineering design and surveying services for conceptual and final civil designs for the pathways.
BKF worked in conjunction with the BART Earthquake Safety Program to upgrade seismically vulnerable portions of the original BART system. The project also included roadway/drainage improvements and upgrades to pedestrian/bicycle paths.
BKF has studied more than 30 miles of trail alternatives and completed the design of more than ten miles of trail along the riparian corridor. As the lead consultant, BKF was involved from concept to completion, including construction administration and as-built drawings.
BKF provided the civil engineering design and surveying for the award winning Route 152/156 Interchange Project. BKF prepared a Conceptual Design Report which included the development of ten geometric alternatives, incorporating various roadway, bridge, and tunnel configurations.
