Planning & Entitlements Project Experience
Located along the southeastern waterfront of San Francisco, the Hunters Point Shipyard and Candlestick Point Phase 2 project includes 10,500 new housing units, 3 million square feet of research and development space, over 1 million square feet of commercial/office space, a 220-room hotel, 330,000 square feet of artist space, all new infrastructure, and shoreline improvements.
BKF has been providing civil engineering, surveying, and land planning services to the 500-acre Lockheed Martin campus since 1986 on an on-call basis.
BKF is providing civil engineering and planning services for Sonoma Mountain Village (SOMO). SOMO intends to transform the former 175-Acre Lucent Technologies light industrial manufacturing campus into a vibrant mixed-use sustainable village. Additionally, SOMO, as part of the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND), has acheived the highest certification level, LEED Platinum. In 2008, SOMO was awarded the Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award (GEELA).
BKF prepared the engineering Master Plan for the award winning Bay Meadows mixed-use development in San Mateo. On- and off-site improvements included roadway and highway interchange design.
Implemented as a joint City/Catellus partnership, since 1998 BKF has served as the civil engineer and surveyor to redevelop 215 acres of the former Alameda Naval Air Station Fleet Industrial Supply Center (FISC) and East Housing.
BKF is responsible for the master planning of utility and roadway infrastructure improvements required to support the university campuses, research and development facilities, office space, and housing elements that comprise the NASA Ames Development Plan. Master planning activities include phasing the installation of infrastructure to support the progressive development of the site while minimizing initial costs and deferring major infrastructure improvements until they are needed.
BKF is working on this complex project scheduled for multi-phase design and construction. Design includes utilities, roadways, storm, sewer, water, and chilled water design. The Ambulatory Care Center includes outpatient clinics, a polytrauma center, research facilities, recreation therapy facilities, and an 800-space parking structure.
The Brooklyn Basin mixed use development is redeveloping a 65-acre parcel of the Port of Oakland through detailed master planning and extensive entitlement processing. The site extends from Oak Street to Ninth Street along the Oakland Estuary and will include 3,100 residential units and 200,000 square feet of commercial/retail space. Thirty acres of the 1.2-mile waterfront will be developed into open space, trails, and bike and pedestrian paths.
